Uxbridge - Secord Forest (Conc. 3)

The Oak Ridges Moraine enters the Uxbridge Forest Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) here with several rare plants. Much of the moraine is in a natural state, and an important sanctuary for many plants and animals.

You'll cross numerous Duffins Creek headwaters on this trail. It's a healthy stream largely because its Moraine recharge area and its valleys are well forested.

Between here and Concession 4, the Trail is mostly in the North Glasgow ESA and Goodwood-Glasgow Provincially Significant Wetland. It has a high diversity of plants and animals, including many species typical of more northern Boreal) areas.

Henry White had a steam-powered sawmill here in 1907. From 1910 to 1920, he dredged and dammed a pond (now called Secord Pond), and opened a stream-powered mill in 1922.

Pet Cemetery established in 1949 by the late Dr. Alan Secord, a well known Toronto veterinarian who built a cottage and then a house on the property,. The Secord Tract was purchased by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) in 1997. Another section was added in 2001, with assistance from the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust.

Here beside the trail is a labelled experiment of growing hardwood trees within a pine plantation, to restore a diverse, native forest.
