Poison Ivy Alert
Hikers should be on the lookout for vigorous crops of poison ivy on the trails east of Yonge St. including the York Regional Forest, Durham Regional Forest, Long Sault CA and Ganaraska Forest.
"Leaves of three, let it be". Look for a plant with 3 leaflets (either serrated or smooth) to each leaf with the centre stalk longer than the other two. In the summer it is bright green, as above. In the autumn it can be highly colourful. It enjoys sandy soil and sunlight and is often found by the side of trails.
